What is Child Molestation?<\/span><\/h2>\n

In Indiana, child molestation is legally defined by the <\/span>Indiana Code Section 35-42-4-3<\/span><\/a>. This law describes child molestation as a crime that occurs when <\/span>someone knowingly or intentionally engages in sexual intercourse or other sexual activities with a child who is under the age of fourteen (14)<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To put it simply, if someone commits child molestation, they could be charged with a Level 3 felony. A Level 3 felony in Indiana carries a penalty of imprisonment for a period <\/span>ranging from six to 20 years<\/span><\/a>, along with the possibility of a <\/span>fine of up to $10,000<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, if the offense involves any form of fondling or touching, to arouse or satisfy the sexual desires of either the child or the person involved, it becomes a Level 4 felony.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this case, the punishment may include imprisonment for a term between two and 12 years, along with a fine not exceeding $10,000, as outlined in <\/span>Indiana Code Section 35-50-2-5.5.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
